For Therapists

Upcoming CPD - Navigating Self-Harm and Suicide from a DBT and Integrative approach

Thursday 6th May 6.45-9pm (online)

Drawing on nearly 15 years experience working in specialist NHS Complex Emotional Needs Services as a Registered Mental Nurse, accredited DBT therapist and within her own psychotherapy practice as a UKCP Integrative Psychotherapist. Emma will share insights and effective strategies for supporting individuals struggling with self-harm and suicidal thoughts. The emphasis is on seeing these difficulties as an adaptive response to adverse experiences through a trauma informed lens.

The session will cover the origins of self-harm, reframing suicide from an attachment and trauma perspective, teach crisis survival strategies to upskill you as a therapist and developing robust crisis plans. There will be discussion on when to seek external help and what NHS services can provide (incl limitations) and time to reflect on your own experiences with questions / answers at the end. Although this CPD event is primarily aimed at psychological therapists the content will be suitable for anyone who has an interest and would like to understand more incl parents, relatives, trainees, other medical professionals.

Early bird tickets £35

General admission £50

‘I was really nervous about seeing a therapist as I didn’t actually know what was ‘wrong’ but Emma really understood me and I felt at ease during the assessment. She’s not just a ‘how does that make you feel’ therapist which I find patronising, she’s practical and genuine.’
